Thai Smile Air (Thai:การบินไทยสมายล์) is an airline in Thailand, operated by Thai Airways International (THAI), that is to begin operations in July 2012.

History

On 20 May 2011, the Thai Airways board announced plans to create a new lower-cost airline, at the time dubbed Thai Wings. The creation of the airline was announced by Ampon Kittiampon, the chairman of Thai's board of directors, on 19 August 2011. It is planned to begin operations in July 2012. According to Ampon, Thai Smile is intended to serve the market gap between low-cost carriers and full service airlines. The name Thai Smile was chosen from a pool of 2,229 entries in a contest to name the airline.

According to an official at Thai Airways International, Thai Smile is planned to begin showing an annual profit of about five million baht within two years of the start of operations.

Destinations

Initially reported Thai Smile will fly to domestic destinations only, on routes of less than two hours, including Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen, Surat Thani, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani. By 2013, the airline is planned to expand into international markets in Southeast Asia, with potential destinations including Amritsar, Brunei, Danang, Medan and Penang.

Sabre reservation system is showing the following loaded but not yet announced by the airline at their website:, while those to India, Cambodia and Indonesia have all been cancelled.

THAI Smile Airbus A320-200 Exterior

THAI Smile's fleet will be consist of 11 brand new Airbus A320-200 aircraft in an all Economy Class configuration of 174 seats. ‘Smile Plus’ in the first rows of the aircraft will feature 30 seats with additional space and enhanced inflight service. The colourful and vibrant exterior and interior design of the aircraft was developed by Priestmangoode, a world class UK company. Four aircraft will be delivered in 2012 with the first arrival in June.

Services

THAI Smile services are different from low-cost carriers. The carrier offers a service which include seat selection and check in counter service with no additional charge, on-board snacks and drinks, and baggage allowance of 20 kg inline with Thai Airways, all included in a fare. Passenger who travel on THAI Smile will also enjoy the Royal Orchid Plus (ROP) mileage same as on Thai Airways flights.

THAI Smile cabin will be configured in 174 seats all economy class. The first five rows of THAI Smile cabin with higher leg room is assigns as ‘Smile Plus’.

Snacks and Drinks

  • For Smile Plus passengers, light meal box with snack and drink will be served.
  • For all THAI Smile passengers, Smile Pack consists of one piece of snack and one bottle of drink will be served.

Smile Café

THAI Smile offers Smile café with variety choices of hot meal, snacks and drinks for purchase on board.

Irei passar uns dias a Bangkok aproveitando o preço desta nova companhia, 1 800 patacas ida e volta, 20 kgs de bagagem, comida a bordo e lugar marcado, muito mais barato do que a Air Asia e com outras condições.
Dia 7 será o vôo inaugural é nesse que irei.
Depois darei uma apitadela para irmos almoçar.
